Welcome

The West Vancouver Community Arts Council was established in 1968 and can be found in the Silk Purse Arts Centre on the waterfront near John Lawson Park at 1570 Argyle Avenue. The District of West Vancouver generously makes the Silk Purse available for the Council's use.

The Constitution of the West Vancouver Community Art Council states that the purposes of the society are as follows:

The object of this society shall be to increase and broaden the opportunities for West Vancouver primarily and all North Shore citizens to enjoy and participate in cultural activities and shall include the following activities:

a) To help stimulate and encourage the development of programs of visual, literary and performing arts in West Vancouver and the North Shore.

b) To render service to all such participating groups and individuals.

c) To foster interest and pride in the cultural heritage of this community.

d) To interpret the work of related cultural groups to the community, enlist public interests and promote public understanding.

e) To bring to the attention of civic and provincial authorities the cultural needs of the community.

History
The Silk Purse was built over 50 years ago, by Mr. John Rowland. Originally a Honeymoon Cottage for newlyweds, the Silk Purse has housed a collection of Canadian memorabilia over the years. Its romantic spirit is still present today äs guests can wander through the gallery, taking in local art or a musical concert, as well as the view out over the beach to Burrard Inlet and Stanley Park. Certainly it is a Silk Purse welcoming to artists and guests alike, and we welcome you to join us in the Honeymoon Cottage by the Sea.
