Summer Student Employment Opportunity

The West Vancouver Community Arts Council is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible individual as an Events & Research Assistant to assist with facilitating our visual and performing arts activities throughout the summer as well as compiling research to support our strategic planning process.


  • Set-up and assist with events including concerts, art opening receptions, gallery rentals, special events
  • Provide box office and front of house for concerts and special events
  • Liaise with event organizer – may be staff or outside organizer to confirm event details
  • Updating on-line ticketing system and membership data input on the website
  •  Assist Executive Director with compiling information for strategic planning sessions that will take place in the summer. Includes research of similar organizations’ activities and funding models and creating summary reference documents
  •  Assist with other organizational and administrative duties as needed


  • A self-motivated individual to take initiative, multi-task and prioritize
  • A genuine interest in the arts, culture and community engagement
  •  Ability to problem-solve
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and effective organizational skills
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for Word processing and Data base management
  • Enjoys working with the public and displays a helpful and outgoing personality
  • Works well in a team and individually.

Full time: 30 hours per week

Length of contract: 12 weeks (May 22 to August 13, 2017)

Remuneration: $11.50 per hour + 4% vacation pay

Availability: Tuesday through Saturday, including evenings

Deadline: May 1, 2017

Please note: this position is subject to funding under the Canada Summer Jobs programme. To be considered for this position, students must be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment, registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year, intend to return to school on a full-time basis next year, is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred.
