Jazz Waves



Every summer the WVCAC proudly presents Jazz Waves! This community favourite festival features amazing performances from the finest local talent - everything from R&B, swing, free jazz, gospel, Dixieland & more! 


  

Tickets: $35 WVCAC Members    $40 Non-Members    $15 Deck

    Jazz Waves kicks off with the incredible Kristian Braathen Trio! West Vancouver drummer Kristian Braathen & his band perform dynamic originals & sophisticated arrangements of jazz standards. With Steve Holy on bass & Miles Black on piano/soprano sax.

    Dynamic jazz saxophonist Aaron Hardie, leads his band of talented performers in an exciting repertoire of his original compositions. Having performed in many ensembles in a variety of styles, including funk, R&B, salsa, swing, & rock, Hardie has honed his skills in performing & composing into a unique modern jazz style.

    Get ready for Mimosa! This bilingual (French/English) Vancouver quintet draws on Jazz, Brazilian Sambas, French Chanson & Cabaret music to concoct its own unique sound: gorgeous melodies, quirky lyrics, incredible groove & sky-high improvisations.

    Mimosa is made up of Rebecca Shoichet (vocals), Anna Lumiere (piano & accordion), Karen Graves (sax, flute, vocals), Conrad Good (bass) & Bernie Arai (drums).

    Wild Blue Herons are veteran musicians, pianist Bill Sample & vocalist Darlene Ketchum. Their music, a combination of jazz, funk, soul, blues with ‘smoky’ ballads, blends groove with complex chords, rhythms & soulful melodies

    Get ready to groove with Tambura Rasa, a vibrant cultural cross-pollination that fuses contemporary grooves & traditional rhythms into one energetic musical brand of its own. Led by producer Ivan Tucakov, this eclectic group of performers from all corners of the globe weaves a rich tapestry of sound, drawing from the Balkans, Spain, Turkey, the Middle East, & beyond.

    They have become BC’s favourite caravan of vivacious globalistas, bringing joy, vigor & dance to the world around them.

    Holly Burke & The Naturals is an award-winning band local jazz veterans. Lead by celebrated Vancouver composer/lyricist/flutist Holly Burkeyou can expect a groovy night of genre transcending texturally rich & evocative music. Joining Burke are pianist Kristian Alexandrov, piano, Bill Runge on saxophone, bassist Brent Gubbels & Randall Stoll on drums.

    Henry ChungHarmonica Links Hall of Famer, heats up Jazz Waves with his band The Spontaneous Combustion! Joining the award-winning harmonica player are Juno Award nominated guitarist James "Buddy" Rogers, pianist Dave Webb, bassist Pat Darcus & Maples Blues nominated drummer Chris "The Wrist" Nordquist. This amazing group will surely wow the crowd with their west coast swing, uptempo blues & high energy R&B and get the audience fired up!

    Sassy & sultry singer Andrea Superstein mixes it up with unique takes on jazz classics & her own material. One of the most versatile voices in music today, Andrea was dubbed as "redefining jazz" by the Vancouver Province. Her powerful vocals navigate the colours of the emotional spectrum with killer improvisational instincts & exceptional storytelling.

    Maria Solena and The Musical Breeze Quartet elegantly plays an eclectic selection of jazz standards, Brazilian & French songs with a contemporary flair that feels both classic & refreshingly modern. Backing Solena's warm & soulful vocals are a trio ov Vancouver's finest - pianist Michael Creber, Conrad Good on bass & saxophonist Dave Say.
