    'Yellow Takes Flight'

    David Pacholko

    'Lost Echoes'

    Sanaz Ravasani

    'Vibrant Whistler Vistas'

    Samira Sukhatme

The traditional norms of art are interrupted by three artists challenging conventions of design, representation & form. Through these dynamic abstract works, viewers are invited to question established assumptions & open themselves up to new ways of seeing.

David Pacholko's spontaneous mixed media artwork is inspired by the plethora of wild birds that inhabit his backyard in Mission. Guided by intuition, a love of colour & a foundation in graphic design, Pacholko attempts to re-capture a fleeting moment or experience gone by. Gestural black line & swaths of bright colour deconstruct the birds into swirling, fluttering impressions of movement, colour & light - capturing their essence as they take flight.

Sanaz Ravasani's elegant acrylic paintings navigate the complex interplay of tradition & innovation. Based in West Vancouver, Ravasani challenges notions of calligraphy as a medium bound by words, opting instead to liberate the strokes & letterforms through abstraction into dynamic designs & patterns. In a world saturated by fleeting digital stimuli, this juxtaposition of calligraphic letters in motion serves as both disruption & homage, where the past engages with the present, seeking to infuse the ephemeral with a timeless significance.

Samira Sukhatme's bold mixed media paintings marry her background in architecture & reverence for the environments that have shaped her. Originally from Mumbai, India & currently based in Vancouver, Sukhatme combines elements of brutalist architecture, mid-century design & the landscapes from her journeys to create colourful abstract compositions that suggest mountainous vistas. Through considered layers of paint, pastels, paper & threads, conventional landscape painting is replaced by an elevated interpretation.

    Mahtab Firouzabadi

    Kim Rosin

Gardens are & have been an integral part of life for millennia. Whether a utilitarian patch of land that produces life sustaining food or beautifully manicured place of comfort & inspiration, we have always found the need to cultivate, grow & tend to flora & vegetation. The work in Bounty approaches the garden from various perspectives, meanings & traditions to present a feast for the eye & mind.

Mahtab Firouzabadi is a North Vancouver based artist whose work explores the interactions between nature, culture & tradition in a contemporary form. This body of work is inspired by traditional Persian art & poetry, in which gardens are often employed as symbols of paradise or places of sanctuary & solace. Firouzabadi transforms these notions of still perfection into energetic brushstrokes & chaotic colours, reflecting the fast-paced disruption of contemporary life. Through wild abstracted trees, flowers & even people, these gardens invite us inside to contemplate our place in the ever-changing world.

Kim Rosin is a West Vancouver painter with a deep curiosity for the world around her. Interested in how plants grow, Rosin took up a community plot in Argyle Gardens in Ambleside, which has inspired this body of work. Documenting the flowers, plants, vegetables & fruits with vibrant colours & bold brushstrokes, she hopes to draw attention to issues of food scarcity & the vulnerability of nature. Through vivid micro views of these lovingly tended gardens, we are invited to enjoy their beauty while examining our own effects on the local ecosystems.
