'Yellow Takes Flight'

David Pacholko

'Lost Echoes'

Sanaz Ravasani

'Vibrant Whistler Vistas'

Samira Sukhatme

The traditional norms of art are interrupted by three artists challenging conventions of design, representation & form. Through these dynamic abstract works, viewers are invited to question established assumptions & open themselves up to new ways of seeing.

David Pacholko's spontaneous mixed media artwork is inspired by the plethora of wild birds that inhabit his backyard in Mission. Guided by intuition, a love of colour & a foundation in graphic design, Pacholko attempts to re-capture a fleeting moment or experience gone by. Gestural black line & swaths of bright colour deconstruct the birds into swirling, fluttering impressions of movement, colour & light - capturing their essence as they take flight.

Sanaz Ravasani's elegant acrylic paintings navigate the complex interplay of tradition & innovation. Based in West Vancouver, Ravasani challenges notions of calligraphy as a medium bound by words, opting instead to liberate the strokes & letterforms through abstraction into dynamic designs & patterns. In a world saturated by fleeting digital stimuli, this juxtaposition of calligraphic letters in motion serves as both disruption & homage, where the past engages with the present, seeking to infuse the ephemeral with a timeless significance.

Samira Sukhatme's bold mixed media paintings marry her background in architecture & reverence for the environments that have shaped her. Originally from Mumbai, India & currently based in Vancouver, Sukhatme combines elements of brutalist architecture, mid-century design & the landscapes from her journeys to create colourful abstract compositions that suggest mountainous vistas. Through considered layers of paint, pastels, paper & threads, conventional landscape painting is replaced by an elevated interpretation.
